Call to Action.

We need your help - people are moving less and sitting more!

A lack of physical activity (i.e., physical inactivity) increases the risk for many chronic diseases including heart disease, obesity, and diabetes. New research has also shown that physical inactivity increases the risk of becoming severely ill from COVID-19. When communities are less active and not as resilient to disease, it negatively impacts healthcare, economic development, the environment, and overall well-being and quality of life.

We call upon community members of all ages to take immediate action to promote physical activity by getting “Up and Moving”.

Take action now by following two steps:

Step 1- Promote

Promote the importance of engaging in regular physical activity by getting “Up and Moving” (e.g., walk, jog, cycle, dance, perform gardening, or other aerobic-based activity) and participating in our #upandmoving social media challenge

Step 2- Encourage

Post a picture or video of yourself participating in your chosen physical activity on Facebook. Use the hashtag “#upandmoving” in your post and tag three friends to participate in the challenge as well.

“Aggressive efforts need to be taken to get people physically moving again after COVID-19.”
